Stillwater Knives Hunter 3.5" Fixed Blade / Desert Ironwood / Mirrored L-6
Jim Thompson learned at a young age that a good knife is an essential tool for all outdoorsmen. Coming from the great state of Montana, Jim started his knife making career in the mid-80s with a desire to learn the trade himself, and a book by David Boye called Step by Step Knife Making – You Can Do it. From simple beginnings Jim Thompson has honed his craft to the fine finish we see today.
Jim prefers to us L-6 tool steel in his knives, taking the material from large circular saw blades. He performs his own heat treat and gives his knives a full mirror polish. He often uses brass or nickel silver for bolsters and uses a variety of natural materials for handle scales.
Each knife comes with a wet molded leather sheath made of 8 to 9 ounce tooling leather. The sheath is also treated with a leather treatment called Montana Pitch Blend.
